Osprey Legacy Society
In 1967, a group of scientists on Long Island set out to end the use of DDT, and Environmental Defense Fund was born. The scientists had discovered that ospreys, magnificent birds of prey were rapidly disappearing.
These founders, including Arthur Cooley, Dennis Puleston, Charles Wurster and Robert Smolker, provided not only the scientific foundation for our early efforts, but also inspiration for continued environmental progress. They made a lifetime commitment to improving the environment.
The Osprey Legacy Society honors the vision of the founders of EDF, and the importance of their victory in 1972 over the use of DDT, which helped spark the modern environmental movement.
Members of the Osprey Legacy Society have indicated their commitment to the long-term protection of the environment by including EDF in their estate plans. Their future support enables us to continue working to ensure the habitability of the Earth for future generations.
Members of the Osprey Legacy Society are entitled to receive:
a free lifetime subscription to Solutions, EDF's quarterly newsletter,
our special semiannual Society newsletter, Osprey Watch,
invitations to special events and seminars,
an Osprey print designed by EDF founder Dennis Puleston,
and—if you wish—recognition in our annual report. Participation can also be anonymous.
